Job Summary:
The Advanced Thin Film Technologies (ATFT) Group is seeking Material Scientist with the expertise in thin film deposition, thin film characterization (structural, optical, and electrical), and operation of the ultra-high vacuum systems. Candidate should have good writing skills and must possess strong knowledge of the Condensed Matter Physics. The mission for this position is to conceive and develop innovative thin film technologies toward solving cutting-edge problems related to microelectronics, energy conversion, quantum sciences, photodetection and national security.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for thin-film deposition using the techniques of Thermal Evaporation, Sputtering, and Atomic Layer Deposition. The candidate is expected to have a good knowledge of vacuum technology and a strong handle on the thin film characterization using techniques such as Ellipsometry, SEM, TEM, XPS, and XRD. The position requires the ability to work on multiple programs in parallel and to work with other members/collaborators with different technical expertise (ex. ceramics, optics, semiconductor). The position also comes with the responsibility of producing strong research proposals, technical reports, publications, and conference presentations. The candidate will have a traveling responsibility of up to 10%.
Qualifications:
- A Master or a PhD in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline
- Experience* in thin film deposition by Thermal Evaporation, Sputtering, or ALD
- Experience* in materials characterization by Ellipsometry, SEM, TEM, XPS, or XRD
- Experience* in electrical characterization by CV and IV probes
- Experience* in ultrahigh vacuum science and hardware design
- In-depth knowledge of materials optical, electronic, and magnetic properties
- Knowledge of the semiconductor devices fabrication and related Physics is preferred
- Strong writing and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team
