RMD’s ceramics group is looking for a highly motivated Ceramic Technician/Engineer with great attention to detail and good lab etiquette. The candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of material scientists, chemists, and physicist to develop novel advanced materials for scintillators, lasers, phosphors, and semiconductors in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Synthesis of inorganic nano and submicron powders to produce advanced optical materials.
  • Processing of cutting-edge ceramics.
  • Analysis of samples to ensure successful outcome of research projects.
  • Interaction with vendors to obtain quotes and place orders.
  • Uphold safety procedures, safety checks, and chemical waste management regulations.
  • Participation in group meetings and brain-storming sessions to find solutions to research problems and to develop new ideas.

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of laboratory experience preferred, or associate degree with 3+ years of laboratory experience, or high school degree with 5+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in independently handling and maintaining high-temperature furnaces (> 900 °C).
  • Experience in chemical and material syntheses.
  • Experience in powder processing and consolidation techniques, including sintering, pressing (uni-axial, CIP, HIP), and polishing.
  • Motivation to learn new skills and techniques as the field evolves.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
