Business Development Manager (R&D)
Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. (RMD, Watertown, MA), provides a dynamic work environment for performing world-class research and development in the fields of radiation detection and imaging, nuclear instrumentation, and non-destructive test equipment. Since its founding in 1974, RMD’s research and development have resulted in breakthrough technologies and products that are utilized in a wide range of scientific fields, from space exploration to particle physics, and from nuclear security and safeguards to clinical diagnoses and environmental research.
This role will be accountable for leading our business development efforts and successfully growing the sector by focusing on expanding RMD’s research portfolio, protecting and growing our existing opportunities, shaping captures and opportunities, developing robust business development strategies aligned to our business unit priorities and providing a synthesized and integrated approach to maximize our portfolio’s capabilities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Leadership of owning business development, campaign, and capture activities
- Develop, manage, and support campaigns and engagement plans and targets customers and government and private stakeholders
- Manage relationships and business pipelines
- Track the President’s budget submissions for government programs
- Identify new opportunities or applications for products combined with either existing or new product offerings and work closely with the business to develop and shape the requirements and opportunities to maximize profitability
- Interact comfortably and effectively with senior strategic customers, decision makers, third party partners, and the VP of Research and the R&D staff within Radiation Monitoring Devices.
- Collaboratively executes the program’s strategic growth plan
- Manage program priorities and pipeline coordination, and lead determination efforts throughout the program
- Prepare acquisition proposals, recommend financial and non-financial strategic objectives and alternatives, and implement and maintain strategic and operational plans
- Ensure that business development activities are carried out in accordance with Government, customer, and Radiation Monitoring Devices policies, procedures, and processes
- Craft compelling proposals that effectively communicate project concepts and objectives to secure funding. Collaborate closely with Directors and other R&D staff to develop proposal concepts and assist in the writing and editing of grant applications.
- Have the knowledge and the collaborative skills to ensure each market is optimally oriented towards growth and aligned to how we engage with our customers to meet their demands and grow our business
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, sciences or related field and 10 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in business, engineering, sciences or related field and 8 years of related experience, or a PhD and 6 years of related experience
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in government acquisitions, logistics business, or other areas across military and government domains
- Experience in systems/services contracting with U.S. DoD programs, OTA’s and other customers
- Proven relationships and credibility in the federal contracting industry
- Demonstrated leadership experience – either leading direct reports, campaign teams, or integrated product teams
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 50% of the time)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business, engineering, sciences or related field or related discipline
- 10 years of experience working within the Department of Defense, Military branches, or civilian government roles
- Experience working with the US Air Force or US Navy.
- Foreign Military Sales Experience
- Program management and/or operational experience
- Business Development or program management/execution experience
- Impeccable leadership and communication skills
- Trained in BD and/or Capture processes
