High Speed Imaging System

RMD pioneered high-speed X-ray imaging technology and has designed and delivered high speed imaging system for ultra high-resolution applications ranging from time-resolved studies at synchrotron sources to ballistic impact analysis and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) or Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of machinery during operation.

RMD’s systems provide multiple images over a wide range of X-ray energies and at speeds ranging from tens of frames per second (FPS) to over 1 million FPS. Depending on the resolution requirement, RMD can engineer the imager to provide relatively smaller, 2.5 x 2.5 cm2, to a very large, 1m x 1m, active area.

RMD’s high speed imaging system includes ultra high speed X-ray imaging cameras that are advanced high frame rate, large-area, modular X-ray detectors capable of acquiring high-speed, high-resolution, high-contrast images of dynamic fast moving targets.  They are used in hypervelocity projectile tracking, impact analysis, and other important applications such as high-speed medical X-ray CT (Computed Tomography) and time-resolved X-ray analysis.

The detector configuration is designed for various demanding applications, including time-resolved X-ray diffraction analysis. The design’s flexibility allows it to be re-configured for high energy X-ray imaging by changing the scintillation screen. These cameras are capable of capturing images at rates up to 120,000 frames per second. A specially designed X-ray source provides blur-free images of hypervelocity projectiles traveling over 18,000 miles per hour.
