Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) Arrays

CZT arrays are compact X-ray and gamma ray detectors that operate at room temperature and provide both spatial and spectroscopic information as well as high detection efficiency and energy resolution over a wide range of photon energies. They are more compact and have superior energy resolution than scintillator/photo-detector spectrometers. Arrays can be configured as rectangular arrays of pixels or in strip format. Strip format reduces the number of electronic channels required to read out the information. Applications include high-resolution single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), nondestructive testing, homeland security and hard X-ray astronomy.
